The Canadian Federation of Nurses' Unions (CFNU)The Canadian Federation of Nurses' Unions was founded in Winnipeg on May 1, 1981. The adoption of the CFNU constitution was the culmination of a series of meetings among interested nursing unions, which started in the fall of 1978. The CFNU exists to:
Canadian Labour Congress (CLC)The CFNU affiliated to the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) effective January 1, 1998. Member organizations of the CFNU at that time automatically became members. The Canadian Labour Congress is dedicated to the proposition that Canadians, as workers, are entitled to jobs, to fair and adequate wages, to union representation, to free collective bargaining and the right to strike and that, as members of society, they are entitled to basic human rights, to social security, to good government, to a safe and healthful environment, to a just and equitable society, and to a peaceful world.
As one of the four largest public sector unions in Canada, the CFNU has representation on the Executive Council, the Executive Committee and selected CLC standing committees. www.clc-ctc.ca The Manitoba Council of Health Care UnionsThe Manitoba Council of Health Care Unions (MCHCU) was formed in November 1979. It is comprised of nine unions representing more than 25,000 health care workers and takes a co-operative and collaborative approach to labour relations matters in the health care. Negotiations, employee pension and benefits plans and EAP are a few of numerous subject areas of importance to its members. The MCHCU is comprised of the following unions:
