Nurse Practitioners

Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are RNs with advanced educational preparation, typically a Masters degree in Nursing. In addition to the scope of practice that a Registered Nurse can already provide, a NP can independently prescribe medications, order and manage the results of screening and diagnostic tests, and perform minor surgical and invasive procedures as determined to be within their particular scope of practice.

NPs consult and collaborate with other health care professionals as appropriate to ensure that the overall health care needs of clients are met.

They are employed in community clinics, emergency departments, specialty acute care settings and long-term care
