Canadians want government to address nursing shortage and health care

Vancouver (June 8, 2009) Government spending on health care continues to be a priority for Canadians, a new poll shows.

The poll found that three out of four Canadians would choose increasing the number of nurses over a tax cut.  Conducted for the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions by Nanos Research, the poll gauged public opinion on government actions needed to address Canada's nursing shortage.

New Report on Intergenerational Diversity

June 12, 2009 - (Vancouver) -  The presence of four generations in a unionized nursing workplace can lead to misunderstandings and competing priorities at work and at the bargaining table, states a new report prepared for the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions.

From Textbooks to Texting: Addressing Intergenerational Diversity in the Nursing Workplace identifies key intergenerational differences among nurses and makes suggestions for unions and employers to bridge generational gulfs in the workplace.

Dauphin grey-listing lifted

The Manitoba Nurses' Union Board of Directors has lifted the greylisting of Dauphin Regional Health Centre at its' April 26th meeting.  The lifting came in response to a request from the Dauphin Local.

MNU President Sandi Mowat said she is hopeful that the progress made since the hiring ban was imposed will continue.

MNU AGM kicks off Monday

Nurses from across the province will meet in Winnipeg for the MNU's 34th Annual General Meeting. Around 500 delegates will debate a number of issues, including increasing pay for charge nurses.
