MNU President Sandi Mowat's latest leg of her province-wide tour took her to the Parkland Region. There she visited numerous facilities and spoke to the nurses and Local and Regional executive. Parkland Regional Health Authority is responsible for the health services for the 42,000 residents within the Region.

MNU President Sandi Mowat recently toured facilities in the Assiniboine Region. Covering 32,134 square kilometres and servicing approximately 69,371 people, the Region employs over 3,000 people and operates 20 acute care facilities, 28 long-term care facilities, and seven elderly persons housing units.

The Health Sciences Centre covers 32 acres of land in central Winnipeg.
Multiple buildings and specialized wings are joined by miles of tunnels
and skywalks, making HSC one of the largest facilities of its kind in
Canada.
MNU President, Sandi Mowat spent two days touring many wards and
departments, and expects to return shortly to complete the HSC leg of
her tour.

Mowat & Silas Join Federal Minister in
Grant Announcement
MNU President Sandi Mowat and CFNU President Linda Silas participated in a media conference on March 6th to announce a Federal grant to support a new initiative being undertaken by the CFNU to improve the recruitment and retention of nurses across Canada.

CFNU President sent a strongly worded letter to Federal Health Minister
Leona Aglukkaq calling upon her to intervene in a decision by Canadian
Blood Services (CBS) to replace nurses with unlicensed, “multi-skilled”
workers. Currently nurses meet with potential donors to perform
confidential health screening and assessments.
