A visit with Home Care and Public Health
MNU President Sandi Mowat continued her tour with a visit to Public Health-Worksite #1 and Home Care- Local #97.

Home Care, the sixth largest local with close to 500 members, provides health teaching, counseling and nursing care to clients, helping them to remain independent for as long as possible, delaying the need for these individuals to go into long term care facilities.

Public health nurses follow the generalist model and deliver services throughout the city. They have expertise in areas such as: prenatal teaching, maternal-child health, communicable diseases, immunization flu and school-based clinics, Healthy Baby/Start groups, breastfeeding groups, Families First program, etc.

There are also specialty programs which include: Antenatal Home Care, Travel Health, Tuberculosis services, Healthy Sexuality and Harm Reduction, and Street Connections.

See issue six of Frontlines for more tour photos.
