| CBS nurses vote to strike |
|
Nurses at local 62, Canadian Blood Services, held a strike vote on January 11, 2012 in Brandon and Winnipeg, with 93 per cent voting in favour of a strike mandate.
The main issue involves achieving a severance allowance. Currently the 35 Canadian Blood Services nurses are the only MNU members, in both the public and private sector, without a severance allowance. Members working in long term care (for-profit facilities) recently negotiated this clause in their new collective agreement. The negotiating committee began bargaining on September 19, 2011 and has so far been successful in getting significant employer rollbacks off the table. |
