| Details on the St. Boniface French Language Agreement |

St. Boniface Local 5 has reached an agreement with St. Boniface General Hospital regarding the designation of bilingual nursing positions within the hospital. The agreement preserves and strengthens the seniority rights held by the current membership and recognizes the value of promoting the French language culture at St. Boniface General Hospital. Under the new agreement the hospital can, in the future, include the qualification of bilingualism (English/French) as a job qualification for nursing positions. However, all nurses employed at the effective date of the agreement, April 21, 2008, who continue to remain employed by the hospital, will be exempt from the application of the bilingualism qualification not only in terms of the selection process under Article 30 (Job Postings) but also in other critical circumstances including deletion, lay-off, bumping, recall and employment security. Local 5 President, Debbie Mintz says she is pleased with the agreement. “Reaching agreement was a prolonged and very difficult process but with the support of the MNU Provincial Office we were able to attain a settlement that meets the needs of both parties.” |
