MNU fundraises for Japan

MNU is joining with nurses' unions across Canada by offering financial support for relief efforts in Japan.

On March 11,2011 a disastrous earthquake and tsunami struck off the east coast of Japan, resulting in the loss of more than 27,000 lives.

As the country tries to clean-up and restore its infrastructure, fears of radiation contamination is causing widespread unease following damage to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

On March 18th,CFNU President Linda Silas contacted nursing colleagues in Japan to offer condolences and support. Soon after, on March 25th, CFNU started a fund for the Japanese Nursing Association(JNA). To date, $28,000 has been raised.

MNU recently passed a motion to support this cause and is donating $5,000.If you or your local/worksite is interested in making a donation to this fund please contact the MNU provincial office for instructions.

Donations will be accepted through the provincial office until April 22,2011.
