| Nelson House reaches agreement |
|
After almost two years at the bargaining table, the nurses at Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation Personal Care Home (Nelson House) have reached an agreement with their employer.
The number one concern for the nurses was achieving parity with the salary scales of other nurses in the north. The nurses took a strike vote on December 7, 2009 and set a strike deadline in late 2010 when negotiations stalled over monetary issues. Setting the deadline resulted in meetings, including meetings with the Chief Jerry Primrose, who demonstrated a willingness to conclude a collective agreement. MNU successfully negotiated a contract, achieving the 15 % increase to the salaries with retroactivity for one and a half years, necessary to bring the Nelson House nurses at parity with nurses in the Burntwood Regional Health Authority. |
