The Provincial Collective Bargaining Committee met on January 6, 2009,
to begin preparations for bargaining the Central Table Agreement which
expires September 30, 2009.
The day-long meeting had a full agenda including a presentation on the
current economic climate by Michael Benarroch, Dean of Business and
Economics at the University of Winnipeg and a regional and national
update by MNU President and PCBC Chair, Sandi Mowat. Director of Labour
Relations and Lead Negotiator, Sudhir Sandhu presented on bargaining
planning and strategy.
The Committee will begin the process of canvassing the members to get
their input into proposals. This will be done through local meetings,
Bargaining Surveys and independent polling. A Bargaining Conference is
tentatively scheduled for May 12, 2009.
A Bargaining Survey is currently being developed and will be sent to
the approximately 10,000 members covered by the agreement in March.
