Study reaffirms lower quality in for-profit long term care
The Institute for Research in Public Policy (IRPP), one of Canada’s most respected public policy think tanks, just released a study of ownership in long term care facilities in Canada entitled: Residential Long-Term Care for Canada's Seniors: Nonprofit, For-Profit or Does it Matter?

The study examines the implications of ownership for quality of resident care and finds that for-profit ownership is associated with lower quality of care. Four years ago, MNU released a report on Long Term Care in Manitoba and identified this concern.

MNU also made a number of recommendations, some of which are made by the authors of the IRPP study, including that long term care facilities be subject to unannounced inspections.
