The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) is inviting MNU members to participate in an important research study to understand why nurses choose to work in private nursing agencies, and the experiences of nurses and organizations working with nurses from private agencies across Canada.

Agency nurses (also called travel nurses) are all designations of nurses who are employed by private external staffing agencies that arrange contracts with an organization.

This study is led by Dr. Joan Almost at the Queen’s University School of Nursing and has been reviewed for ethical compliance by the Queen’s University Health Sciences Research Ethics Board. The study is funded by the CFNU.

You are eligible to participate and complete a 10-minute online survey if you:

  • Work or have worked in the past 5 years for a private nursing agency.
  • Work for an organization that currently utilizes or has utilized in the past 5 years the services of private agency nurses.
  • Are currently a pre-graduate nursing student and will be graduating from your program in the next 6 months.

You can enter a draw to win one of 10 gift cards, each valued at $50. You will also have the option of participating in an individual interview.

The survey is open now and will close on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 11:59pm Eastern time.

CFNU has also launched a letter-writing campaign targeted at Canada’s Finance Minister ahead of the upcoming budget, to apply pressure and elevate awareness of CFNU’s budget submission. This campaign also features videos of nursing students who are worried about walking into difficult situations once they graduate. Please visit the Staff Up Save Lives website to learn more.
