For the month of September, the Manitoba Nurses Union will be proudly hosting a virtual Lace Up fundraising event in support of Diabetes Canada and their goal of a cure for diabetes!
Nurses know diabetes affects patients in all parts of our public health care system, from hospitals to personal care homes and everywhere in between.
That’s why it is important for us to get involved in fundraising initiatives like Lace Up, which focuses funds on research, education and programming.
Our fundraising goal for this year’s event is $5,000 and we are hoping to not only meet that goal but exceed it.
For those who would like to participate in our event by walking, running, and cycling, Team MNU’s goal is 2,000 km, which is the distance between Winnipeg and Churchill, and back to Winnipeg.
Diabetes Canada launched a new Lace Up app this summer that makes participating and donating much easier. Please download the app to your phone, as it will keep track of your steps and is compatible with your FitBit, Apple Watch and Garmin.
Our event will run for the entire month of September, until the 30th, and there will be prizes for the individual who raises the most money and the individual who notches the highest distance.
For Locals/Worksites/Regions that would like to donate, you’ll have until Oct. 15 to get your cheques in. As we have done in years past, please make the cheques out to MNU and add in the memo or notes section “Lace Up for Diabetes”.
Every year, thousands of Lacers from coast to coast to coast take part in Lace Up to End Diabetes to raise funds and awareness for Diabetes Canada. Anyone at any fitness level can participate.
Diabetes Canada urges participants to challenge themselves with a distance goal, either individually or as part of a team, or start a daily streak using the Lace Up app. Share your commitment with your network and let them know why you Lace Up to raise funds in support of Diabetes Canada.
Each step you take and every dollar you raise will have a profound impact on the lives of the nearly 12 million people in Canada who are affected by diabetes.
Help bring us one step closer to a cure. Join #LaceUpYourWay this September!
