Red River College announced the establishment of the Kim Kotelo Memorial Award for Nurses, which is valued at $1,000 and will be presented annually to a student completing their third year of the Bachelor of Nursing program.

Kim was a graduate of the RRC Polytech’s nursing program and worked as an acute care nurse at the Health Sciences Centre through the COVID-19 pandemic. She passed away in April of 2021.

As mentioned in the link below to the RRC site, Mark and Sharon Evans learned about Kim and her dedication to her patients, and were moved to establish the award. It’s their way of giving back, as Mark Evans, CEO of Winnipeg-based financial technology company Conquest Planning, told RRC, adding that he owes his life to the “miraculous people – the doctors and nurses who care for us day in and day out.”

They are generously matching all donations to the Kim Kotelo Memorial Award for Nurses Fund. If you would like to donate, please see this link: https://www.rrc.ca/fundraising/2021/12/03/kim-kotelo-memorial-award-for-nurses-honours-passion-to-caring/

We honour the life of Kim Kotelo and we honour the lives of those health care workers in Canada and around the globe who have died from COVID-19. We also extend our heartfelt condolences to all families and individuals who have lost loved ones as a result of this pandemic.
