Only a week away is the 2024 edition of the Manitoba Nurses Union Annual General Meeting, which takes place at the Fairmont Winnipeg on May 7 and 8!

This is the first in-person MNU AGM in Winnipeg since before the pandemic, and we are aiming to build on the successes of last year’s in-person AGM in Brandon.

For those registered to attend the AGM, we will be sending out important information related to this event to your email addresses on file with us, so please make sure to check your inbox and folders, including your spam and junk folders, to avoid missing any emails.

In order to make the best decisions regarding union business, you need to be receiving the latest updates. Please make sure your personal information is current, especially your email address.

To update, log in to the Member Portal and under the My Profile menu, select Update Email. Once you’re set up to receive our emails, you’ll see your MNU ID number appear in any emails we send you. This is important to know.

If you do not know your MNU ID number, please contact our membership department membership@manitobanurses.ca and they will gladly help you out, as this is your access number you need to log in.

Furthermore, the 2023 Annual Report is now available on our website for those who would like to peruse it ahead of time.

New this year to the AGM is an event for United Way Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Labour Council called the Period Power menstrual products drive.

Members who drop off a new, unopened pack of menstrual pads, tampons, cups, and other menstrual products between 8 and 9 a.m. on each day of the AGM (Tuesday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 8) will be entered into a draw to win a prize… or two.

According to United Way Winnipeg, Canadians can spend up to $6,000 on menstrual hygiene products throughout their lifetime. In rural communities, the same products can cost up to $12,000.

For so many people in our city, menstrual products are unaffordable—especially during this time of rising costs and economic uncertainty. That means many Winnipeggers living on a low income end up missing school or work because of a period. And if someone is experiencing homelessness, it’s even harder getting monthly menstrual supplies.

Please visit United Way Winnipeg’s Period Power webpage to learn more. Their collection drive will be ongoing throughout the month of May and there is also a monetary donation button on this page.

For more information on this year’s MNU AGM, please visit our AGM website. Once again, we will have an app to help reduce waste and paper usage at the AGM. Instructions on how to download the app will be shared with members attending AGM.
