Last month, United Way Winnipeg bestowed its Labour Community Excellence Award to MNU President Darlene Jackson during a ceremony held at the Union Centre.

This award is given to someone from Labour who has gone above and beyond in their involvement with United Way – giving their time, volunteering, connecting labour + community + united way.

Darlene was recognized for having served on the United Way Board of Trustees, and chaired the Labour Executive Committee, which connects Labour with United Way. She continues to advocate for the United Way through her work, most recently bringing this year’s Period Power campaign to MNU’s AGM.

“This award winner recognizes the importance of collective power within her union, throughout labour and more widely within the community. When she sees a need, she is one of the first to lend a hand,” said Melissa Dvorak, while presenting the award to a surprised yet very pleased Darlene.

“She is dedicated to her work, standing up for the nurses across Manitoba, being there for her friends and family and mentoring the next generation of advocates. Her door is always open and we all think that she is wonderful. Please congratulate Darlene Jackson!”
