As MNU members, you work tirelessly every day to care for Manitobans. We get it — you’re exhausted — and the thought of filling out more paperwork can feel overwhelming. But submitting Workload Staffing Reports (WSRs) is more than just another task; it's a powerful tool that protects you AND holds management accountable.

Here's why taking the time to fill out WSRs is so important:

Be a Voice at the Table

The data collected from WSRs goes straight to Nursing Advisory Committee (NAC) meetings where key issues are discussed directly with your employer.

Control the Narrative

WSRs give nurses the power to tell the real story of how understaffing and increased workloads affect your ability to provide safe, quality care. It’s your chance to make sure the reality of your work conditions is documented accurately.

Highlight Standards Gaps

WSRs let you record when the nursing college’s standards aren’t being met. This documentation helps paint a clear picture of the challenges on the ground and strengthens our case for change.

Use Data to Drive Change

Submitted WSRs provide MNU with hard data that can be presented to the government to highlight the true state of our healthcare system. This evidence is critical when advocating for improvements such as the development of nurse-patient ratios.

WSRs are not just another form — they are a critical resource that MNU fought hard to secure. Their origins date back to 1991, when MNU members went on a 30-day strike to push for better conditions.

Decades later, WSRs continue to be a cornerstone of our advocacy.

This fall, our Board of Directors will be reviewing the WSR form to find ways to make it even easier for you to report issues of short staffing and increased workload.

How You Can Help

We need your support. Please continue to fill out WSRs when you can and provide us with constructive feedback on how we can improve the process. Every report strengthens our collective voice.

Remember, we’re all in this together. If you have any questions about WSRs, you can find resources such as a step-by-step tutorial on our website, or you can reach out to our team. We’re always here to support you.
