MNU is pleased to announce a significant negotiated improvement for Central Table members: a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that ensures fair salary step placement for eligible casual nurses.
This improvement is about fairness and respect for the long-serving nurses who have dedicated years of skill, service, and commitment to Manitoba’s healthcare system. If you transitioned to casual status after retiring or resigning from a full-time or part-time position, you may now qualify for a salary step adjustment if the 15- or 25-year salary step did not exist at the time you made the switch.
What You Need to Know
Who Qualifies?
- If you have completed 15 or 25 years of service, later became a casual nurse, and are not currently receiving pay at the appropriate step, you can now apply for an adjustment.
Application Deadline
- Submit a written request by May 31, 2025, to be considered for the salary step adjustment.
Employer Verification
- Your employer must confirm your past years of service and process requests in a reasonable timeframe. Employers are also required to acknowledge receipt of applications within 14 days—and yes, email submissions count!
Retroactive Pay
- If your application is approved, your salary adjustment will be retroactive to April 1, 2024, the date these new steps took effect.
How to Apply: Application forms and the list of employer contacts for submission are available behind the MNU portal on our website. We encourage all eligible members to apply as soon as possible to ensure timely processing.
