June 12, 2026, WINNIPEG, MB – Nurses at Seven Oaks General Hospital have voted overwhelmingly (98%) in favour of grey listing the facility, citing the Employer's ongoing failure to address serious workplace safety concerns.
The vote reflects mounting frustration among nurses who say violence, security gaps, communication failures, and unsafe staffing levels continue to compromise the safety of staff and patients.
"Seven Oaks nurses have made it clear that enough is enough," said Darlene Jackson, President of the Manitoba Nurses Union (MNU). "They are demanding action on safety concerns that have persisted for far too long. Every healthcare worker has the right to a safe workplace, and every patient deserves care in an environment that is properly staffed, supported, and secure."
As one of Winnipeg's busiest hospitals, Seven Oaks General Hospital plays a critical role in Manitoba's healthcare system, and these challenges require immediate attention. Nurses are calling for stronger access controls, enhanced security measures, improved emergency communication protocols, increased support following critical incidents, and staffing levels that reflect patient needs and acuity. They have also outlined a clear set of actions they believe are necessary to improve safety and restore confidence in the workplace.
"Nurses have put forward clear, practical solutions that would make this workplace safer for staff, patients, and visitors," Jackson continued. "The Employer now has an opportunity to demonstrate that safety is a priority by taking meaningful action on those concerns."
MNU remains committed to advocating for the safety, dignity, and well-being of its members. We will continue to work diligently toward substantive solutions that enhance safety and working conditions in all healthcare facilities across the province.
