Our sincerest congratulations go out to MNU member Blake Morden, who received a Rescue and Honour Award from the Lifesaving Society of Manitoba during a ceremony at Government House on January 26, 2023.
Blake, who is an ICU trained nurse and works in the Post Anesthesia Recovery Room at St. Boniface Hospital, was among a group of 17 Manitobans whose quick thinking helped save the lives of two children on Lake Winnipeg at Grand Beach in the summer of 2021. A member of MNU Local 5 for many, many years, the leadership there said that Blake is the kind of person who will go and help no matter what, so this honour is very fitting as Blake in his kayak battled winds and fatigue to bring back to shore the young girl and one of the other rescuers.
